Consents

Consent is required under the Board's byelaws for development within 9 metres of either bank of an adopted watercourse and works affecting land drainage and flood protection within the Board's district.

The standard consent forms are listed below;

  1. Bridging of a watercourse.
  2. Culverting or piping of a watercourse.
  3. Discharge of water to a watercourse.
  4. Development within 9 metres of a watercourse.
  5. Diversion of a watercourse.
  6. Service crossing a watercourse.
  7. Temporary works.
  8. Weir construction.

This list is not exhaustive but covers the common consents.

Applicants should apply to the Board's office for consent providing details of the proposals and a location plan or Grid Reference. The standard form of consent for discharge to a watercourse is given below as an example;

Conditions

  1. The maximum rate of discharge into the drain will be li/sec
  2. The applicant will be held responsible for damage to any watercourse or flooding caused as a result of this discharge.
  3. The discharge quality shall be as specified by the Environment Agency.
  4. Discharge shall cease when the watercourse is in flood condition due to over-topping of the bank of the River Trent.
  5. Measures shall be taken to protect the banks and bed of the watercourse from erosion.

Notes:-

  1. Please note that the issue of a consent by the Newark Area Internal Drainage Board does not absolve a person proposing to execute works etc from the need to obtain any other licences consents approvals or permissions which may be required in law or the need to comply with any duties or responsibilities for the conservation or protection of the environment (including flora and fauna).
  2. The Board does not accept any responsibility for the design and construction of the works referred to in this consent and any liability for any loss or damage which may arise out of their design construction maintenance or use.
